Planes, Trains, and Automobiles

When I started this blog I didn't want it to be about me, but about my work. I find it strange sometimes that with social media everyone knows everything about everyone, or at least they think they do.  I can be a very shy person so putting my words and sharing my life on social media is like inviting strangers into my world. However, just recently a friend posted this saying and it couldn't be more true:

"Your smile is your logo. Your personality is your business card. How you leave others feeling after an interaction becomes your trademark."

I realized, my work is a huge part of me so why not share my experiences along with my illustrations.

A couple weeks ago, I was flying across the Atlantic again; this time to Scotland. Next summer I am getting married in Scotland because that is where my fiancee is from. He came to the states on a golf scholarship and we met the first week of school. The rest is history.  I have been to Scotland many times now, but this time was extra special because my parents and little sister came, too. It was a whirlwind of a trip, squeezing in both wedding planning and sight seeing. A Scottish wedding is nothing like I could ever imagine. The tradition and details that go into it are bit overwhelming, but I know it is going to be absolutely amazing! Never in a million years would I have thought I would marry someone from Scotland and have a wedding fit for a queen!  It was so much fun to show my parents the country that I've fallen in love with, and to celebrate the merging of two incredible families that I am so blessed to be a part of.

While planning a Scottish wedding, I came across some wedding details that most American brides do not encounter like kilt fittings, addressing the haggis, and hat shopping. Being engaged for a long time, we kept putting off wedding planning, but now it's less than a year away! One wedding detail that I hadn't planned on was illustrating my own wedding invitation.  I was hesitant at first, but decided to sketch some ideas on the flight over. As you can see in the picture, Paul had some other ideas and it turned into a two hour game of Pictionary.  Who knows if I'll actually go through with creating my invitation, but I am always up for a new challenge.

We took a mini trip to London while we were over and one of my big "to-dos" was to go to Harrods.  After my first trip to London six years ago, my grandma asked if I had gone to Harrods and was shocked that I hadn't gone!  I never made that mistake again.  This time while I was walking in, I noticed one of the window displays filled with illustrations of shoes.  Days later I found out one of my favorite illustrators I follow on Instagram, was doing a live sketching session in Harrods a few days later!  I developed a new goal  to add to my mile long list of goals.  I have so many ideas bouncing around my head and not enough time in the day!  With that being said, I am going to take advantage of this rainy day and try to get some work done!

                                                Lots of Love,
